Discovery's After School Adventures Program provides our students with a variety of enrichment opportunities.

Discovery reserves the right to cancel any class due to insufficient enrollment, at which time refunds will be given. No refunds or adjustments will be made after classes begin. There are no adjustments, refunds or discounts for absences.

Sign Language
The introduction American Sign Language after school enrichment program will consist of learning letters & numbers, dialogues, vocabulary, and grammatical feature(s). Students will practice individually and in pairs. In addition, students will learn about the Deaf culture.

 

Ages:                          K - 2nd grade

Picture Book Adventures
Picture Book Adventures will provide a fun themed overview of popular picture books. Each week will have a different theme focus, and the children will experience crafts, Story Walks, group discussions, games, and individual exploration of books based on the weekly theme.

Yoga Club
Themed classes explore yoga poses in a fun and creative way. Energy-releasing warm-ups are followed by a flow of postures mixed with music, crafts, games and stories. Children learn to focus and center themselves through balancing postures, various breathing techniques and guided visualization. Lessons include mindfulness, affirmations, creative self-expression and basic anatomy.

Please send your child with a yoga mat and a water bottle each week.

F.A.C.E

The Fitness and Character Education (F.A.C.E.) program developed by Mr. Kirk Farber, 7th degree Black Belt and Seminar Speaker, combines his 25+ years training of Martial Arts, jumping rope, and juggling to guarantee results in agility, coordination, focus, and timing for today’s youth. He incorporates building self-esteem and character education through public speaking on character traits during every class session. This program is for Upper Elementary, Lower Elementary, and Kindergarteners.

Dance and Musical Theater

ShiningStars Theater

ShiningStars offers an exciting dramatic play program for primary to elementary aged students that uses fun exercises and games to encourage bravery, confidence, and creativity when communicating with others. We believe what all children have to say is important, therefore the ShiningStars mission is to instill the confidence in children to clearly communicate their thoughts and feelings with the world, fearless of large crowds or intimidating settings. We hold a Play at the end of each 10-week session. Parents will be given details on the play date and time as well as a script for each play for practice.

The Knight School - Chess 

The Knight School chess approach is a unique, revolutionary, high-energy chess classes, replete with fast, clock-slapping chess games, a dizzying array of super-fun chess activities, hilarious instruction, a strict bully-free environment, silicone wristbands for tactics mastery, puzzlers for candy, driving music, exhilarating weekly tactical lessons, and Mardi-Gras-bead chess tournaments every single day! Join The Knight School chess party and give your child the gift of amazing chess friends, undeniable academic confidence, a self-identity as a smart kid, and a weekly dose of childhood joy that is the highlight of their week!  Includes chess tote, team shirt, tactixbands, and the December and May city wide tournaparty.  Participants are required to bring their TKS tote on chess day and encouraged to wear their team shirt and bands during chess class.

Happy Feet Soccer

HappyFeet is a fun story time with a soccer ball Program that uses familiar songs, stories, and games with a soccer ball to build coordination, balance, and creative thinking. The kids will have a blast learning about Bob the Bobcat (our famous soccer ball) and performing basic soccer skills.  The curriculum intertwines stories and adventures in each class to ensure the kids are engaged and having fun, while building confidence and getting hundreds of touches on their soccer ball.  Each child enhances their self-concept, while learning real soccer moves - all with a unique, imaginative twist!

Athletic Games (Monday)

Students will focus on playing a multitude of games which involve fair play, team building, leadership, collaboration, hand-eye coordination, and fitness. The goal of this camp is to help children boost their confidence and self-esteem through fun and active games.


Sports Conditioning (Thursday)

Students will focus on running, agility, balance, hand-eye coordination, and strength training. Fair play, resiliency, and leadership are developed throughout this practice. An exciting, fun, and challenging experience for those children up to the task.


Basketball (Tuesday)

Students will focus on the fundamental and advanced skills of basketball, which include: dribbling, passing, free throws, shooting, proper positioning, collaboration, and the importance of being vocal. Conditioning will play a role in their weekly training.


Flag Football (Tuesday)

Students will focus on the fundamental and advanced skills of flag football, which include: passing, receiving, punting, running routes, proper positioning, collaboration, and the importance of being vocal. Conditioning will play a role in their weekly training.


Soccer (Thursday)

Students will focus on the fundamental and advanced skills of soccer, which include: dribbling, heading, throw-ins, penalty-kicks, passing, shooting, proper positioning, collaboration, and the importance of being vocal. Conditioning will play a role in their weekly training.


Street Hockey (Thursday)
Students will focus on the fundamental and advanced skills of hockey, which include: stick handling, passing, shooting, proper positioning, collaboration, and the importance of being vocal. Conditioning will play a role in their weekly training.


Wiffle Ball (Tuesday)

Students will focus on the fundamental and advanced skills of wiffle ball, which include: striking a ball, catching, proper positioning, collaboration, and the importance of being vocal. Conditioning will play a role in their weekly training.
